In July, Valentine had the pleasure of co-hosting the AZ Water Young Professionals Committee meeting, bringing together water and wastewater professionals from across Arizona for an evening of learning, networking, and conversation.
The Young Professionals Committee creates valuable opportunities for career growth, professional development, and connection within Arizona’s water community. We were thrilled to see such a great turnout and enjoyed the opportunity to welcome both new and familiar faces.
Sharing Our PFAS Experience
As part of the evening, Valentine team members Sam, Kaley, and Dalton presented on PFAS treatment and shared some of the work our team has been involved with across Arizona.
The presentation touched on Valentine’s ongoing ADEQ PFAS pilot studies, where several treatment media are being evaluated to better understand their performance, feasibility, and operational requirements under real-world conditions.
The team also highlighted one of Valentine’s major recent projects, City of Tempe Well 20. Water quality testing at the existing well identified PFAS concentrations requiring wellhead treatment before the well could be connected to Tempe’s potable water distribution system. Valentine evaluated both granular activated carbon (GAC) and ion exchange (IX) treatment during design, ultimately incorporating an ion exchange PFAS treatment system into the site.
The Well 20 project has involved much more than treatment alone, including well rehabilitation, permitting and agency coordination, site improvements, chlorination, power modifications, and construction of the new well site. With construction nearing substantial completion, it was exciting for our team to share how years of planning and design are coming together in the field.
Connecting with Arizona’s Water Community
Of course, the evening wasn’t all technical talk! The meeting also gave attendees plenty of time to connect, exchange ideas, and build relationships with fellow young professionals in the industry.
A huge thank you to AZ Water and the Young Professionals Committee for the invitation and for helping make the evening such a success. We’re grateful for opportunities like these to share our team’s experience, support the next generation of water professionals, and stay connected with Arizona’s water community.
Here’s to keeping Arizona’s future flowing, one Young Professionals meeting at a time! 💧
