The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) contracted Valentine to provide engineering services for a new nitrate treatment system serving the City of Eloy Wells 5 and 6. Located at the Well No. 6 site, the project includes the implementation of a 1,250-gpm (approximately 1.8-MGD) nitrate treatment system to address elevated nitrate levels while supporting the City’s high-producing wells and future water demands.

Valentine designed an ion exchange treatment system to treat the combined flows from Wells 5 and 6. The design included piping modifications to integrate the new treatment system, modifications to the existing chlorine disinfection and injection systems, and upgrades to the site’s electrical and instrumentation systems.

The treatment system also incorporates a backwash and regeneration stream recycle system, minimizing waste by sending only approximately 0.32% of treated water to the sewer. Valentine designed a new gravity sewer line to convey treatment waste flows to the City’s existing sewer system.

Design was completed in January 2025, and Valentine is currently providing construction administration services, with construction anticipated to be completed in late 2026.
