Project Overview
Schulte Well #2 owned by California American Water (CAW) was experiencing declined production. Production from this well combines with flow from a series of wells throughout the Carmel Valley and is treated for iron and manganese at the Begonia Iron Removal Plant (BIRP). The replacement well (Schulte Well #3) was constructed with a well yield of 1,300 gpm. INTERA provided well design bidding documents and Valentine provided the well equipping design/well equipping construction administration. INTERA and Valentine coordinated the well and well equipping designs. The well equipping portion of the project included a submersible well pump, instrumentation including flowmeters and groundwater level transducer, as well as extraction/pump to waste pipelines complete with check valves, gate valves and a pump control valve. The pump to waste for the new well was routed to an on-site pump to waste basin. The well equipping also included upgrades to the existing electrical to implement shunt trip breakers as well as reconnecting an existing service line used for irrigation.
