Project Overview
Valentine designed the following facilities and facility improvement to the 0.5 MGD Wishing Well Water Reclamation Facility (WRF): New headworks consisting of grit chamber, fine screening and flow monitoring, retrofit of existing aeration system from coarse bubble to fine bubble, replacement of existing multi-stage blowers with high efficiency turbo blowers, conversion of existing clarifier to sludge storage & installation of 3 new clarifiers, addition of solids screw press for sludge dewatering.
Valentine performed a site master plan which included a plant capacity analysis. In performing the plant capacity analysis, Valentine identified that the existing activated sludge basin could treat up to double its rated capacity. This cost savings enabled Arizona American to plan for other needed facility improvements.
Because the expansion was performed without the need for additional treatment basin expansion, a detailed Maintenance of Plant Operations (MOPO) was developed to allow portions of the treatment basin to be taken off-line while other portions remained in service. The MOPO provided a stepwise procedure of system shutdowns, tie ins and timeframes that greatly assisted operations staff and contractor in coordinating their work efforts with least impact to the process.
